Time for Instructors Licence?
Becoming a Master Cosmetologist Instructor takes time, experience and dedication. Don't wait as you never know when a great offer will come along.To obtain a Master Instructor licence (hairdressing and esthetics), Cosmetologists are required to successfully complete two (2) years of active work as a Master Cosmetologist in a registered cosmetology establishment, complete the Milady RISE Eductor program (within two years of receipt of initial instructor licence), and meet any other requirements as may be determined by the Association. Master Cosmetologists who are self employed will be required to show proof of business registration, and length of time of ownership.
To obtain a Specific Cosmetologist Instructor licence (nail technology, body hair removal, make-up artistry, or eyelash enhancements), Cosmetologists are required to complete three (3) years of active work as a Specific Cosmetologist in a registered cosmetology establishment, complete the Milady RISE Eductor program (within two years of receipt of initial instructor licence), and meet any other requirements as may be determined by the Association.
Master/Specific Instructor Application & Process:
Master Cosmetologists and Specific Cosmetologists are required to fill out an Application for Instructor Licence and submit to the Association for review.
Application Fee(s):
Fees associated with this application are noted in accordance with the Cosmetology Act, 2012, c.39 at Schedule B.
One-time Administrative Fee as per Schedule B noted above is non-refundable, and due upon receipt of an application for designation.
Master/Specific Instructor Licence Fee in accordance with Schedule B noted above is due upon approval.

All applications are processed upon receipt of the required application, supporting documentation, and applicable fees as per Schedule B noted above. The Applicant will receive notification of application outcome via email to the email address indicated on the application for designation. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing.
Please note: Incomplete applications will expire 90 days post submission (if the Association has not received a response to communication with respect to the subject application).
Effective as of December 2022: All Master/Specific Instructors are required to participate in one (1) professional development class each year, and provide the Association with proof of attendance prior to licence renewal. (Note: it is not the responsibility of the Cosmetology Assocation to obtain proof of professional development training on behalf of a Member.)

Train the Trainer/Adult Education Certificate
The Nova Scotia Department Advanced Education requires all PCC instructors to complete a Train the Trainer/Adult Education Program. Instructors must complete this program (three modules in total) within 3 years of instruction commencement. The Association requires a copy of the AEC upon completion (forward documentation to the Association's Exam Coordinator, Jill Gallagher via email at jill@nscosmetology.ca.
