First, let’s address zoning laws. Areas of land are divided into zones with which various uses are permitted. Make sure your space (commercial, home-based or mobile) is a zone in which business may be conducted. Secondly, law requires all businesses operating in Nova Scotia to register with the Registry of Joint Stock Companies; except businesses named after an owner’s first and last name without a descriptive element. The Association requires your Joint Stock number on file, so please be prepared to provide it.
Lastly, cosmetology business permits are compulsory by Nova Scotia law, and must be issued by the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia to every salon and spa (commercial, home-based or mobile.) Permits must be renewed no later than December 31st of each calendar year. The Association must be in receipt of applicable forms and prescribed fees prior to issuing a salon or spa permit. Please read the following information carefully to properly apply for and register your salon or spa with the Association.
Note: Permits will not be issued until the association inspection of your salon is completed.
