Time for Instructors Licence?
Becoming a Master Cosmetologist Instructor takes time, experience and dedication. Don't wait you never know when a great offer will come along.
To obtain a Master Instructor licence (Hairdressing & Esthetics), Cosmetologists are required to successfully complete two (2) years of active work as a Master Cosmetologist in a registered cosmetology establishment and meet any other requirements as may be determined by the Association. Master Cosmetologists who are self employed will be required to show proof of business registration, and length of time of ownership.
To obtain a Specific Cosmetologist Instructor licence (Nail Technician, Make-Up Artist, Body Hair Removal, Eyelashes), Cosmetologists are required to complete three (3) years of active work as a Specific Cosmetologist in a registered cosmetology establishment and meet any other requirements as may be determined by the Association.
Master/Specific Instructor Application & Process:
Master Cosmetologists and Specific Cosmetologists are required to fill out a Application for Instructor Licence and submit to the Association for review.
Fees associated with this application are noted in accordance with the Cosmetology Act, 2012, c.39 at Schedule B.
One-time Administrative Fee $55 plus applicable taxes is non-refundable, and due when submitting your application.
Master/Specific Instructor Licence Fee $95 plus applicable taxes (upon approval)
Applications can be submitted by fax (902) 468-7147, email firstname.lastname@example.org or walk-in.
Once application and administrative fee has been received, your application will be forwarded to the Associations Executive Director for review. Once the review process has been completed, you will receive notification from the Associations Provincial Exam Coordinator (6-8 weeks). Should your application be denied, the response letter will include the reasons why.
Please note: Incomplete applications will expire 90 days post submission.
Effective October 15, 2018: Starting January 1, 2020 ALL Master/Specific Instructors are required to participate in one (1) upgrading course each year, and provide the Association with proof of attendance prior to licence renewal.
Approved Upgrading Courses:
Approved upgrading courses for Master Instructors can be found on our website at www.nscosmetology.ca under Member Education and click, "Approved Upgrading Classes."
Train the Trainer/Adult Teaching Certificate:
Once approved for a Master/Specific Instructor Cosmetology licence, Instructors are required to complete the Train the Trainer/Adult Teaching Program. Instructors are given 3 years from approval date to complete all three (3) modules and required to submit copies of certificates to CANS Provincial Exam Coordinator - email@example.com
